This fabulous French toast is a loved dish by our guests. It's a great compliment when they ask for the recipe. Love the thought of them replicating their experience when they return home. 

6 eggs

2/3 cup of Orange Juice

1/3 cup of orange liqueur (Grand Marnier or Orange Vodka)

1/3 cup of half & half

1/4 tsp of salt

1 tsp of pure vanilla extract

1 1/2 tsp of finely grated orange zest

12 1/2" slices of french bread

Threads of orange zest (garnish)

Confectioners Sugar (garnish)

Honey or Maple Syrup (topping)

 

Preheat oven to 170 degrees F. Place a oven proof cooling rack on cookie sheet. Lay slices of bread on cooling rack and place in the oven for 3 minutes. Turn slices over and return to oven for another 2 minutes. Bread should be dry but not completely dried out. In large bowl combined eggs, orange juice, liquor, half & half, salt, vanilla, & zest. Whisk together until the eggs are completely incorporated. Pour into 9x13" casserole pan. Set slices of bread in liquid. Allow to set 20 secs on each side. Turn bread over and repeat soak for 20 secs. Remove and place on cookie sheet. Keep chilled if not cooking directly. Heat griddle on medium heat until drops of water dance on heated surface. Coat griddle with cookie spray or butter. Place slices of egg soaked bread on hot griddle. Cook 3 minutes on each side until French toast is firm in center. Keep warm in 170 degree oven until ready to plate and service. 

 

Suggested topping:

8 oz cream cheese

3 Tbsp of Orange Marmalade

1 tsp of vanilla

1 tsp of orange zest

Blend ingredients together . Serve French toast with a dollop of orange cream cheese in between layered slices.
